ETUDE – Mini-Album

General Information:

LAREINE’s third mini-album, containing 6 tracks. It is their second release after their long break that lasted from January 2001 up until October 2002.

When LAREINE disbanded in August of 2000, MAYU, EMIRU and MACHI left to pursue other musical activities, but KAMIJO stayed, and turned LAREINE into his solo project. After just one single, GRAND PAIN, and one album, SCREAM, he also paused LAREINE in January of 2001.

Almos two years later, KAMIJO picked up LAREINE again, still as his solo project, and released a single, 蝶の花/レッスン (Chou no hana/Lesson) in November of 2002. Just one month later, this mini-album was released, containing both songs of that single, three new songs, and a short instrumental intro.

In the booklet of this album, “?” are credited as the guitar, bass, and drums. These three mystery musicians were actually MAYU, EMIRU and MACHI: The same lineup of LAREINE right before disbanding back in 2000.

So while this release and the 蝶の花/レッスン (Chou no hana/Lesson) single were officially LAREINE as KAMIJO’s solo project, it can also be seen as LAREINE as a band.

This bizarre relation between guest musicians and full band would soon be resolved, as LAREINE would officially reunite and become a band again a few months later, in March of 2003, albeit with a new drummer.
