MALICE MIZER’s fifth single, and third major single, released as an 8cm CD containing three tracks; the main song, an accordion remix, and an instrumental version.
Even though it didn’t reach the Oricon top 10 singles chart at first (It reached 11th place…), it is MALICE MIZER’s best-selling single, even surpassing au revoir’s sales.
It was used as the ending theme for TBS TV’s ‘江川の食卓’ (Egawa no Shokutaku).
‘Gekka no yasoukyoku’ or “月下の夜想曲”, the title of the song, is a reference to a video game that released one year earlier. The game’s title in English is ‘Castlevania: Symphony of the Night’ for the Playstation 1, but the Japanese title is ‘悪魔城ドラキュラX 月下の夜想曲’, which reads as ‘Akumajo Dracula X: Gekka no yasoukyoku’.
There are two versions of this single; Both released the same day and with the same tracklist and catalog number. The difference is in the finish of the cardboard case: One has a rough texture, the other a smooth texture.
