General Information:

LAREINE’s second mini-album, containing 5 tracks, and their first release under a major record label.

LAREINE’s “Fleur” single was so successful, that it quickly picked up the attention of Sony Music Entertainment, who signed LAREINE to their record label. The first two releases under SONY; this mini-album, and the Métamorphose single, were under a bizarre sublabel called “SME Intermedia”, instead of “SME Records”.

I don’t fully understand the meaning or intentions behind “SME Intermedia”, since no one else released music under that sublabel. Maybe it was a test to see if LAREINE would perform well enough before investing even larger production budgets into them?

No matter what it was for, LILLIE CHARLOTTE and Métamorphose performed extremely well, increasing their popularity enormously. This mini-album sold so well it reached a top position of 70 on the Oricon Style Weekly Albums Chart.

LILLIE CHARLOTTE’s CD packaging is a huge, super-deluxe photo- and story book containing 52 pages.

The third song, “薔薇は美しく散る” is a cover of the opening song from the popular 1972 manga/anime series “The Rose of Versailles” (“Lady Oscar” in the West), illustrated by 池田代子 (Ryoko Ikeda). This series had a big influence on KAMIJO when he was younger.

This cover song was later rereleased as a single in 2000. The rerelease is the same as the version on LILLIE CHARLOTTE, except for added soprano vocals.

There’s two versions; Both are identical, except that the limited edition has a sticker with a serial number on the back. This limited edition was only sold on one concert, a few days before the “actual” release, on the 1st of October 1998.
